Iden Tree Service is a locally owned and operated tree care company based in Port Sydney, proudly serving the Simcoe-Muskoka region.
My path into arboriculture started in an aerial adventure park, where I spent three years running and maintaining ropes courses before moving into a leadership and management role. Working at height every day gave me a strong foundation in rope systems, climbing, rigging, harnesses, and rope rescue. Those skills carried over directly to tree work, and I moved into arboriculture full time.
After a short stretch working in Alabama on large trees and complex removals, I returned home to Muskoka. I now have five years in the trade, with nearly all of that experience here in Muskoka, including climbing, rigging, removals, pruning, and hazard tree assessment. I wanted to take the skills I had developed working at height into a trade that was more challenging and directly useful to the people and communities around me, and arboriculture was a natural fit.
Nicholas LaSorda, another ISA Certified Arborist (ON-380817A), works alongside me on many of our projects, and we bring in other qualified arborists when a job requires a larger crew. Every job is led by a certified climber. Nick and I both hold a DZ licence and are certified Red Cross Emergency Medical Responders, a level above standard first aid and CPR. Along with our ISA Arborist certifications, these are qualifications we bring to every job.
I train and compete year-round. In 2025, I placed 10th at the Ontario Tree Climbing Championship in Kingston and was part of the first-place team at the Maple Leaf Ropes Expo in Ancaster, climbing alongside a combined crew of arborists, tower technicians, and trail rescue technicians. ISA conferences, trade expos, and continuing education courses keep me current with tree science, techniques, and industry standards, while competition climbing keeps my rope work and aerial rescue skills sharp. Nick and I are both working toward our Board Certified Master Arborist credentials and our 444A Skilled Trades Ontario arborist certification.
I'm also a volunteer firefighter with the Township of Muskoka Lakes Fire Department, Station 7, covering the Raymond and Windermere response areas. My wife Lilian and I live in Port Sydney on the North Muskoka River. Muskoka is home, and the trees we care for are part of the natural landscape and beauty that we want to preserve.
Below is a look at where the company has been — the competitions, conferences, expos, and courses that have helped shape how we work today.
Meet The Crew
Nick is an ISA Certified Arborist (ON-380817A) with six years in the trade. He's one of the best climbers I've worked with — there isn't anything you can put in front of him that he can't handle. He's competing in his first Ontario Tree Climbing Championship this September in Niagara Falls.
Nick is also a firefighter and instructor with the Township of Muskoka Lakes Fire Department out of Windermere Hall, Station 7.
When he's not climbing trees, you may just find him trying to teach his dog Archie how to climb them too.Â
